Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip took over 100 lives in the 24 hours and injured many more, per the Health Ministry. According to Gaza health officials, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed over the last few days. President Donald Trump recently had a four-day trip to the Middle East.
Over 100 People Killed in Airstrike Attack on Gaza
Dozens of the injured and dead flooded the hospital hallways, and the strikes have killed many extended families. Tragically, survivors have had a very difficult time burying the dead. According to the World Health Organization, “The risk of famine in Gaza is increasing with the deliberate withholding of humanitarian aid, including food, in the ongoing blockade.’
“The entire 2.1 million population of Gaza is facing prolonged food shortages, with nearly half a million people in a catastrophic situation of hunger, acute malnutrition, starvation, illness, and death. This is one of the world’s worst hunger crises, unfolding in real time,” per the World Health Organization. Recently, the United States and Israel addressed getting aid back to Gaza.
There is no official timeline yet on when the plan will be executed and rolled out. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said, “”President Trump has made very clear that one of the most urgent things that needs to happen is humanitarian aid into Gaza, and he has tasked all of his team to do everything possible to accelerate that and to as expeditiously as possible get humanitarian aid in, to the people.”
The attacks come as Trump is wrapping up his four-day visit in the Middle East, which did not include Israel. There were hopes that there would be a resolution in talks to reach a ceasefire deal in the Israel-Hamas war. Israel has been blocking humanitarian aid, commercial goods, and medicine from entering Gaza since March 2. Israeli officials say that the blockage is intended to pressure Hamas to release the remaining hostages.
Per NBC News, on Thursday evening, one of the missiles landed on the home of 11-year-old Ibrahim Al-Banna. Abd Al-Banna, Ibrahim’s uncle, arrived at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis carrying Ibrahim’s lifeless body. The boy’s mother was overcome with tears when she saw her son’s body on a gurney. She said, crying and embracing her son’s lifeless body, “My darling, my Abdu … you are my heart … I wish it were me instead of you.”
Ibrahim’s body was wrapped in a white funeral shroud. His uncle leaned into him and said, “When you meet God, tell him they left Gaza alone – without food, without water, without hope.” Trump said on Friday, “We’re looking at Gaza. And we’re going to get that taken care of. A lot of people are starving.” He did not explain in detail his proposal to help Gaza.
Final Thoughts
Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s relationship has had some tension due to being at odds on the two most pressing issues in the region: aggression from Iran and the war in Gaza. Israel launched a military campaign to destroy Hamas in response to the group’s October 7, 2023, attack, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken as hostages. Since the attack, at least 53,000 people have been killed in Gaza.
