Celebrate Pride Month By Making These 3 Fun Crafts

June is officially upon us, which means that it is also officially LGBTQ+ Pride Month! Pride month is about embracing identity, celebrating differences, and ultimately recognizing the wonderful community of queer and trans people that lives among us. There are so many different ways you can celebrate, but one of the most fun is to do a craft! These 3 crafts are perfect for pride month, but don’t worry, you can represent the rainbow year-round too!

#1 Fun Pride Month Crafts – Pom Pom Headbands

Pride month is full of fun events like parades, parties, and more. All of which encourage you to dress up in your flag colors or in the colors of the rainbow. That being said, one fun craft you can make for Pride month is a pom pom headband! These headbands are fun, easy to make, and will brighten up your outfit no matter what event you’re going to. Or, if you’re more of a homebody, you can wear it while you’re watching cute queer rom coms in your living room with a bucket of popcorn.

All you need for this craft is some pom poms, a wide band headband, and a low-heat hot glue gun. Once you have your materials, simply glue the pom poms onto the headband with the hot glue and let it cool/dry. Once it’s dry, its ready to wear!

#2 Fun Pride Month Crafts – Rainbow Rocks

Painted rock crafts have been all the rage for a while, and Pride month is the perfect time to paint some rocks with inspirational quotes, your pride flag, a rainbow, or whatever design you prefer! These rocks make great decorations for windowsills, front porches, or you can even check Facebook to see if your local community has a painted rock hunting group where members of your community will hide and seek the painted rocks that are created. There’s even an app to find painted rocks nearby you.

All you need for this craft are some medium sized rocks with smooth surfaces, acrylic paint, and a can of waterproof paint sealer. Paint the rocks with your acrylic paint in any design you want and let them dry. Once they’re dry, spray the painted rocks with waterproof paint sealer and you’re done.

#3 Fun Pride Month Crafts – Woven Friendship Bracelets

There’s no craft more classic than a woven friendship bracelet. They’re easy to make, can be made in any color combination that you want, and are very affordable! All you need is at least 2 colors of embroidery thread (found at your local craft store for about 40 cents per skein!), a safety pin or tape, and scissors. There are tutorials for different patterned friendship bracelets all over the internet, but my favorite is just a classic 2 color striped bracelet.

Start by measuring your embroidery thread and cutting it to the length of your arm. Once you’ve got your 2 colors measured and cut, simply tie the ends together with a slip knot. Then, either safety pin the thread to your pants or tape it to a flat surface. To get going, you just tie one color around the other 10 times in a row, and switch colors doing the same to the opposite thread. When your bracelet is long enough, slip not the two colors together and tie it onto your wrist and there you go!

Conclusion

There are an infinite number of crafts that you can do to celebrate pride month, but the best ones are the ones you make with friends or family. So, while you’re celebrating this month, grab your besties, put on some music, and make these 3 easy crafts together! Happy Pride, everyone!
