Apple cider vinegar is not exactly “new.” Apple cider vinegar has many health benefits that have been used before we realized the other many wonderful benefits. It can possibly help with lowering blood sugar, aid in weight loss, and lower blood pressure, but it can also be used for antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
Apple cider vinegar has been used in various foods such as dressings, marinades, and pickles. Sometimes I put a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in water and it helped rid me of heartburn. Like most things, you take it in small doses and in moderation. If you have too much of a good thing, it’s no longer a good thing.
What is apple cider vinegar made from? It’s made from crushed fermented apples, yeast, and sugar. And there are a few different types of apple cider vinegar. I have seen at Publix and Wal-Mart some small glass bottles of apple cider vinegar by Braggs mixed with other juices or flavors such as grape. It was quite good and it took the strong vinegar bite out of it when mixed with other flavors.
Apple Cider Vinegar: 3 Helpful Benefits Part 1

As stated above there are some key benefits of apple cider vinegar. I will limit it to talking about just three, though. Apple cider vinegar is helpful in aiding weight loss, lowering blood pressure and blood sugar, and aiding in acid reflux. Science does not fully understand the link among these benefits, but we will explore them as best as we can.
In a study that reported weight loss benefits, it reported most people took about two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar a day- one before lunch and the other before dinner. Taking only two tablespoons a day is safe for most people, experts have indicated.
Even though apple cider vinegar isn’t fully understood and there isn’t as much research put into it, it still, has been used for many years. Before we even started investigating it further, in fact. It can be helpful to lose a few pounds, but if it’s not, don’t despair. You are still implementing a healthy habit into your daily routine and healthy habits are what helps us lose weight along with a health diet and exercise.
Apple Cider Vinegar: 3 Helpful Benefits Part 2
Another improvement seen by taking apple cider vinegar was that it aided in alleviating acid reflux. Personally, I have dealt with acid reflux and silent reflux. Neither one are fun to deal with, but instead of taking a Tums, I decided to take something that was more effective- a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar diluted in a cup of water was almost instantaneous.
What was explained to me and makes total sense is that when you have acid reflux the stomach is producing acid. To help stop the production of acid, you’ll want to take something already acidic because that will signal to the stomach to stop the production of acid. I believe that to be true, because it has worked for me every time I had a bad case of acid reflux.
If you have a case of acid reflux that is debilitating like what I used to have (pain in your chest, jaw line, and throat) then you’ll want to make sure to stop it effectively and immediately. Apple cider vinegar does all of those things. In fact, if you make a habit of drinking the flavored prebiotic apple cider drinks from Braggs, you’ll have a lesser chance of acid reflux plaguing you continually.
Apple Cider Vinegar: 3 Helpful Benefits Part 3
One thing you want to make sure with whichever brand of apple cider vinegar that you choose, you want to make sure to get one that has the mother in it. The mother is a thick dark icky looking slimy substance that floats towards the bottom of the glass. The mother is believed to have more health benefits with it such as prebiotics and antioxidants.
It is even suggested that taking the pill form of apple cider vinegar will be easier to take overall. All in all it will be easier to take than swallowing the liquid form, but make sure to drink a full glass of water with the pill if you choose to go that route.
The final benefit is that apple cider vinegar can help with lowering blood pressure and blood sugar. To aid in lowering blood pressure and blood sugar, take about 1 1/2 tablespoons after a meal and people saw improvement. Coincidence? Although lacking research in humans, one study in rats suggested that apple cider vinegar does help lower blood pressure. Be sure to ask your doctor before trying anything new for your health.
