An update about pregnant Charlotte the stingray has followers questioning everything. We were all captivated by Charlotte because she was either pregnant through the second case of immaculate conception or after getting randy with a shark.
America was ready for the virgin birth that was coming any day. The country would also accept the possibility of shark-ray crossovers. Either way, we had pregnant Charlotte the stingray’s back and were excited to follow her journey through motherhood. Until we got her update.
Charlotte the Stingray’s Update
The last time we got an update as shocking as Charlotte’s, it was last week when Nicki Minaj got arrested during her tour in Amsterdam. In a similarly shocking scandal, we finally began to get updates this week on Charlotte after a month of no word.
On Thursday, Hendersonville’s Aquarium and Shark Lab by Team ECCO ominously posted an update indicating that Charlotte has a reproductive disease that may have impacted her reproductive parts. The past month consisted of the analysis of tests and lab results. A reproductive disease could have made Charlotte appear pregnant.
Then on Friday, via WLOS-Charlotte, the news broke that Charlotte was in fact not with fish. In the video, Brenda Ramer was quoted as saying, “I can only tell you what we know for certain. I’ve never been a liar. This was not a scam. This was not anything made up, but people do that. People have their own thoughts.”

Was Charlotte Ever Pregnant?
It’s unclear at this point. The vet for the aquarium, Rob Jones, who is based in a completely different country, clarified recently that he was still given ultrasound images of Charlotte. Jones felt eggs may have been present, but he wasn’t sure. When he asked the aquarium whether any movement had occurred in the ultrasound, they never responded. Is it safe to have a facility vet that far away from the location, in general?
Charlotte’s fans have been questioning the pregnancy for over a month. There were a lot of scientifically questionable things about Charlotte’s potential pups. When scientists would question the aquarium, they would be allegedly blocked, making confirmation of pregnancy difficult. At least we now have some answers.
This is a theory based on alleged information, but see if you agree. The Hendersonville Aquarium got excited about a prospective pregnancy and announced the news too soon with an alleged lack of medical backing. Then Charlotte has been pregnant for too long, so the team allegedly comes up with an excuse for no pups. The team announces a disease that is uncomfortable for fans to question. More time passes, and the aquarium must confess that Charlotte is not with fish, so they do so with as little explanation or accountability as possible.
Do Stingrays Get Pregnant Often?
Stingrays with female anatomy get pregnant with two to six babies roughly once a year. They carry their babies, which are referred to as pups, for roughly 3–4 months. Mother stingrays carry their young so long that they look like adults when they’re born. The tiny, self-sufficient fish are born into their environment in what looks like a very painful process. Stingrays like Charlotte often live five to 15 years in captivity, meaning lots of pups.
Some kinds of stingrays are known to bare pups without male assistance, hence the immaculate conception, in a process called parthenogenesis. However, none, like Charlotte, have done that to date. If you’re pregnant, also not through parthenogenesis, these gardening tips are for you!
Mating with a shark is similarly unlikely. A research scientist at the Georgia Aquarium told the Associated Press that Charlotte could not have been impregnated by one of her shark tank buddies. Their general body size and anatomy are not compatible with mating. The scientist also said that their DNA could not combine to create a viable fish. There goes that idea.
