Woman, 44, Responsible For San Dimas Sword Attack Arrested

California has witnessed a bizarre occurrence, the San Dimas sword attack. A woman, Weichien Huang, 44, was arrested and booked for murder on suspicion of murdering her wife, Chen Chen Fei, 47, on July 18 with a Samurai sword. Not only this but she also attacked Fei’s mom, causing her to end up with severe wounds. It is still unclear what prompted the attack but to find a bloody woman walking in the streets with a sword isn’t something that you see every day and it had to be addressed.

What Happened in the San Dimas Sword Attack?

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide Lt. Daniel Vizcarra, Huang fatally stabbed Fei at the intersection of Bassett Court and S. Huntington Drive in San Dimas at about 3:30 p.m. The weapon used was a Samurai sword and her mother-in-law was also attacked and severely injured. However, she gained control of the sword and fled the scene looking for help.

She tried to grab the cops’ attention while walking up to them with the sword, and then she led them to the scene. What caused the San Dimas sword attack is still unknown but authorities state that the couple were engaged in an argument at their residence moments before the San Dimas sword attack. Detectives closed the intersection during the investigation as they found a bloodied sword in the middle of the road.

When authorities arrived, Huang’s wife was found with cuts and lacerations and she was later pronounced dead at the scene. She was later identified on Monday by the medical examiner as Chen Chen Fei. As for Fei’s mother, she is stable and recovering at a local hospital. Eyewitnesses filmed the mother-in-law in the street with the sword near a parked U-Haul box truck in the 300 block of South Huntington Avenue. At this point, they weren’t sure whether she was the victim or the murderer. When she went to the police, she wanted to show them the weapon but she had to put down the weapon and raise her hands as per the orders from the deputies at the scene.

Additionally, there was a third woman who was left physically unharmed but she was taken to the hospital for a “medical emergency,” as the police have stated. This medical emergency turned out to be a heart attack. There are no further updates on this woman’s condition. Currently, the police are facing the problem of breaking the events down as the women speak only Mandarin Chinese. They were thought to be family but investigators weren’t able to be certain as the language barrier turned out to be a hurdle. It caused a delay in the investigation and interpreters were sent to both the home and the hospital to help them break down what was going on.

As the investigation is still ongoing, the detectives are still urging anyone with any information about the San Dimas sword attack to come forward, and in the wake of this deadly occurrence, Eric Nakano, mayor pro tem for San Dimas said:

While the investigation is ongoing and we are learning more details of this tragedy, on behalf of the city of San Dimas, we want to thank the San Dimas fire and the sheriff’s stations for their quick response in securing the scene and helping the victims.
