In 2011, the billionaire was accused of an $11 billion fraud that occurred after the sale of his software company. The trip was packed with family and friends, including Lynch’s wife and daughter. The happy occasion soon turned into one of the year’s worst news stories.
Unfortunately, a tragedy disrupted all plans on the sea. An eyewitness, a local fisherman named Fabio Cefalu, wanted to help. He described the ship going up in flames. Before he could do anything, the yacht sank. Lynch and some others on the ship were believed to be trapped. Some passengers were later rescued from the deep waters; after the successful rescue, six others were declared missing.

Mike’s wife Angela is among those who were rescued. Many are still wondering what happened to the seven people still unaccounted for and where their bodies might be.
Captain of Sicily Yacht Under Investigation
Days after rescuers recovered the bodies, they managed to identify all of them. Reports say that all missing persons were later accounted for. While families of the deceased grieve, the authorities seek justice.
The captain of the Sicily yacht, James Cutfield, is being investigated. Grilling Cutfield intensely, Italian prosecutors want him to answer to charges of shipwreck and manslaughter. Sources confirm that he is not yet charged, nor is he seen as guilty. Meanwhile, a sea of locals have acknowledged the tragedy. People in the local Sicilian fishing community recently held a candlelight vigil for the shipwreck’s victims.
Bodies Recovered From The Wreck
Local authorities finally made a breakthrough after combing the sea. Following their 24-hour search, they discovered five bodies. One of the bodies they’ve found has been identified as Recaldo Thomas, a man of Canadian-Antiguan descent who worked on the yacht as a cook. He was not listed among the missing as he was found in the wreck.
Two days after the rescue in Palermo, more bodies surfaced. A NBC News correspondent showed body bags being placed in fire department boats and later being transferred to ambulances. Six more people have since been declared missing.
