DC Disbars Rudy Giuliani In Wake of Election Claims

Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump, Former New York City Mayor

A Washington, D.C., appeals court has disbarred former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani after Giuliani failed to respond to a court order. The court order was given to him, asking for a reason why Giuliani should not be disbarred in Washington. Giuliani, the one-time “America’s Mayor,” lost his law license in New York state last summer.

The reason Giuliani lost his New York law license was that he continued pushing false claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged against former President Donald Trump. Giuliani was a faithful follower and legal confidant for Trump, holding an infamous press conference in front of the Four Seasons Total Landscaping. In that press conference, Giuliani claimed that he had evidence to show about the election.

A grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia indicted Donald Trump. For his part, Giuliani believed that what he was sharing in connection with the Trump campaign was true. A report from The Associated Press indicated that Giuliani spokesperson Ted Goodman spoke out against the D.C. court’s ruling. Goodman called the action “an absolute travesty and a total miscarriage of justice.”

Goodman was not finished, though. In a text message to the AP, Goodman wrote, “Members of the legal community who want to protect the integrity of our justice system should immediately speak out against this partisan, politically motivated decision.”

A three-judge panel for the D.C. Court of Appeals − Judges Roy McLeese, Joshua Deahl and Eric Washington − followed Giuliani’s disbarment in New York. He can not practice law in either place, USA Today reported.

Giuliani Was Mayor On Sept. 11

Giuliani has been a fixture in the American political scene for decades. He was mayor at the time of the Sept. 11 attacks on the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center. Giuliani was praised in many circles for how he represented New York City at the time. He even famously walked side by side with former President George W. Bush among the rubble at the terror attack site.

Now, though, Rudy Giuliani has become more known for his support of Trump. He also faces criminal charges. Plus, he’s running out of money. A jury in 2023 awarded $148 million in damages to two former Georgia election workers. They sued Giuliani over defamation around lies he spread about them in 2020.

After that verdict came down, he filed for bankruptcy. A judge in July, though, threw out his case and listed a number of citations. Among them were a failure to comply with court dates and a lack of disclosing sources of income. It’s quite a fall for the one-time New York City mayor.

These days, Giuliani is quite vocal about his situation and shares his view about it. He has his own radio show that gets airtime on conservative-leaning broadcast channels. Additionally, his show airs regularly on X (formerly known as Twitter). Giuliani has not shown any willingness to not fight back against charges or disbarment activities. Trump has not commented on Giuliani’s current legal situation as of Thursday afternoon.
