Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene of the mass shooting, and the person who was fatally shot was inside the building. The five people injured have been taken to nearby hospitals, but their condition is unknown at this time. Police Chief Greg Jones said that the motive behind the attack is also unknown, but authorities have made it clear that it was targeted and there are no further threats. They are diligently working to locate the suspect’s whereabouts. There is a lot of uncertainty within the New Albany community, but it is important to remain united during this tragedy.
On the brighter side, close to 150 employees were evacuated safely from the facility after the mass shooting occurred. However, this is nothing short of a heartbreaking tragedy, one that will not go without justice. Jones made a statement saying, “Our officers, alongside multiple agencies, responded swiftly to protect lives and secure the scene. We train for situations like this, and while it is something no community ever wants to face, we were prepared to act quickly and effectively. We will continue working to bring this situation to a full resolution.”
Final Thoughts
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 26 mass shootings so far in 2025. We are barely a month into the year, and so many tragedies have already happened. Almost 250 children, teens, officers, and other individuals have been killed in a shooting. Almost 400 of those same groups have been injured as a result of a shooting. There is no end in sight for this kind of tragedy, which is appalling.
