Metcalf was a junior at Frisco ISD’s Memorial High School in Frisco, Texas. The teen played football for the school and was supposed to graduate high school next year in 2026. The investigation is ongoing.

The Fatal Stabbing of Austin Metcalf

The victim was at a track and field championship meet between other schools at the Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco. The fatal attack happened at the stadium on April 2, 2025. Metcalf was in the stands when a fight broke out between him and fellow 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony. Anthony, who is a senior at Centennial High School, was told allegedly that he was in the wrong seat before he used a knife to draw out his attack, according to Metcalf’s Dad, Jeff Metcalf. Anthony stabbed Austin in the chest as his brother witnessed the horrific crime.

The stabbing occurred yesterday morning around 10 a.m., where the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) District 11-5A championship track meet was being held. Hunter quickly went to his brother’s aid, but it was too late. Hunter described his attempt to help Austin. He told WFAA, “I tried to whip around as fast as I could. I looked at my brother and I’m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him.” Hunter described his brother as a peacemaker who was very loved by all his friends.

Visibly grieving, Jeff spoke about Austin Metcalf and his twin being inseparable. “They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make him stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms,” The grieving father recalled in describing the horrific tragedy facing him and his family. Hunter contacted his parents through a phone call to them about the fatal attack. Jeff quickly rushed to the stands and found Austin not breathing on a gurney. Jeff described the horrible experience of finding his murdered son.

Jeff recalled Austin Metcalf’s murder, “I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him. This is murder,” Jeff said. In a statement from the Frisco police, “Despite life-saving measures buy police fire personnel, including CPR and the administration of blood, the 17-year-old died.” Austin Metcalf was pronounced dead at the local hospital.
