Broccoli stems are one of many strange things that some dogs like to eat. In fact, lots of animals love to eat random things. That can be rather alarming for pet owners because some of them might not know whether or not the things their pets get into are safe for them to consume.
There are a great deal of things that are very toxic for dogs, cats, and other animals if they eat them. For example, dogs often consume things like socks, which are unsafe for them. They should also not ingest certain foods that humans enjoy because they can be bad for them. Grapes and raisins are a good example of this since those foods can make them seriously ill.
But the good news is that some of the odd things dogs eat are actually okay for them. Many weird things they eat won’t put their health at risk.
Dogs Can Eat Broccoli Stems, But Owners Should Be Cautious
The best way to ensure that dogs don’t eat things that they are not supposed to eat is to keep them away from those things. However, life happens. Unpredictable situations pop up. That’s okay. It’s nearly impossible for one to be by their dog’s side every second of the day, which means that there is a good chance that the dog will get into things that he or she shouldn’t have access to.
But some of the things dogs try to eat, like broccoli stems, for example, are actually good for them. Additionally, broccoli stems are safe for them to eat. They contain a decent amount of fiber, which is healthy. But those who plan to feed broccoli and stalks to their dogs should cut them up first so that their dogs don’t choke.
Flies Are Also Fine
Dogs love to eat things that people often add to their own meals. However, they also like to eat some truly odd things as well, including flies. Flies are probably not very filling, so it may be that dogs like to chase them and eating them is something that they consider to be a reward.
Dog owners may be concerned when they see that their furry family members are eating flies, but it turns out that that’s not really something they should worry about. There are lots of things that are bad for a dog’s health if eaten, but flies are not one of them.
Dogs Can Also Eat Moths
Dogs can eat lots of things such as certain kinds of peanut butter, flies, and broccoli stems. But something that might come as a bit of a surprise to some is the fact that they can also eat moths. Moths are not toxic for dogs, but they also don’t benefit their health in any way, either.
However, one thing that dogs absolutely should not eat is butterflies. That is because butterflies consume something called milkweed, which is unhealthy for dogs. Also, owners should keep a watchful eye on their dogs if they have eaten a spider. Some of those are harmless, but that’s not the case for all of them. But if a dog eats flies, moths, or broccoli stems, they’ll likely be fine.
