Chad Daybell is facing the death penalty in Idaho after being convicted and sentenced for the three “doomsday” killings. Last year, Lori Vallow Daybell was also found guilty of conspiracy and murder charges and sentenced to life for the same three murders.
Hopefully, the loved ones of the victims can find peace after the couple have both been held accountable for their heinous behavior. New trials must rip the band-aid on the wounds that are healing for those individuals. Finally, the doomsday debacle’s chapter has been closed.
Chad Daybell Sentenced to Death
Chad Daybell was sentenced to death for murder on three counts. Two of the individuals were found in his backyard, as pictured above. The other victim passed away in the home pictured. It took two long months for the trial to run its course, but the jury has deliberated for roughly eight hours and decided that Chad deserves the greatest penalty of all.
In Idaho, the death penalty can be imposed if there is an “aggravating circumstance.” The jury found that two circumstances applied: an utter disregard for human life and the murders being especially heinous and cruel. According to state law, Chad Daybell could be killed via lethal injection or firing squad. The state has never taken someone’s life via firing squad, but there’s always time to make history.
Who Were Daybell’s Three Victims?
The infamous “Doomsday” couple have both been sentenced for charges related to the deaths of three people. These three people include Tammy Daybell, Chad’s first wife, and Lori Vallow Daybell’s children, Tylee (16) and J.J. (7).
Tylee Ryan and J.J. Vallow were found deceased and buried in Chad Daybell’s backyard in June of 2020. Tylee Ryan’s cause of death was an unspecified homicide. It was difficult to determine how she was killed because her remains had been mutilated, with some parts missing. Her remains were burned post-mortem. J.J. Vallow’s autopsy showed his life was taken via asphyxiation as a result of a bag covering his head being duct-taped.
Tammy Daybell also died of asphyxiation by suffocation in December of 2019. If the testimonies during the trial taught us anything, it was that the details around Tammy Daybell’s death were as clear as mud, with certain people (Garth Daybell) allegedly appearing to tell different stories to different people.
Tammy was portrayed in the trial as a 49-year-old in failing health because she struggled to carry a box at a book fair and coughed sometimes. Most people perceived her as a healthy, middle-aged woman whose life was taken from her. We likely won’t ever know exactly what happened, but two separate juries determined that Lori and Chad Daybell had something to do with it.
Are Any More Daybell Trials in the Pipeline?
There is one more trial in this cult-classic couple’s pipeline. Lori Vallow Daybell is also facing two conspiracies to commit murder charges in Arizona. Alex Cox, Lori’s brother, took the life of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, in what was described as “self-defense” at the time.
Lori Vallow Daybell is also being tied to the alleged attempted murder of her niece’s ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux. We will detail these incidences more at the time of the Arizona trial. Lori Vallow Daybell’s trial has already been delayed twice.
