The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an urgent recall of more than 800 cases of bread that could contain “glass fragments.” The recalled rolls were sold at the retail level in six states, including Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, Ohio, and California. Upper Crust Bakery recalled three different kinds of bread after glass fragments were found on top of the rolls. All affected rolls were sold as frozen products.
The Recalled Bread Types Include:
- Ancient Grains Hoagie roll in 4-ounce containers, recall number: F-0741-2025 in Lot #90
- Multigrain Sourdough rolls in 18-ounce containers, recall number: F-0742-2025 in Lot #90
- Whole Grain Multigrain rolls in 20-ounce containers, recall number: F-0743-2025 in Lot #92
The FDA recommends avoiding the affected rolls, which could contain glass fragments and should be discarded. The majority of the recall was made up of 699 cases of sourdough rolls. Customers can also request a refund.
The Maryland-based bakery originally reported the recall to the agency on April 12, 2025. The recall has now been elevated to Class II, meaning a “product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The report said that ingesting glass fragments can cause injury to the consumer, which may include damage to teeth, laceration of the mouth and throat, or perforation of the intestine. It also poses a choking hazard. No injuries have been reported.
