Deadpool In Disneyland? First R-Rated Character Debuts Today

The infamously foul-mouthed Deadpool has arrived in Disneyland Paris and is set to make his debut in the U.S. on July 26th. This is a shocking addition to the family-friendly parks as the Marvel character is well-known for swearing, extreme violence, and sexual innuendos.

Deadpool and Wolverine, the third movie installment in the franchise, comes out July 26th. With the film set to garner $360 million on its opening weekend, it’s clear that fans are eager to see the anti-hero back on the big screen. However, even with the character’s success, Disney’s choice to include him in their theme parks seems an odd choice.

Obviously, Disneyland can’t have one of their characters dropping the f-bomb in front of children. But since adult-humor is such a large part of the character, the question on everyone’s mind is how Disney will attempt to tame the Merc with a Mouth’s tongue.

G-Rated Deadpool

As of now, the character has not been seen doing traditional meet-and-greets with guests in Paris, and Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that his appearance in the U.S. at California Adventure will be limited to a pre-scripted show.

Disney may be attempting to keep guest interaction to a minimum in order to lessen questions about why Deadpool hasn’t engaged in any of his normal raunchy behavior. However, if Disney was to conduct one-on-one meet-and-greets with Deadpool, the character has a famously easy way to get out of questions like “What’s your favorite swear word?”

The Fourth Wall

As mentioned, Deadpool is famous for his humor. He’s also famous for his appearance and his mutant regenerative abilities, but there’s another unique powerset he has at his disposal that might help him in Disneyland in particular.

The term “breaking the fourth wall” refers to a character’s ability to speak directly to their audience. Deadpool is one of very few Marvel characters who actively knows he’s inside a comic book or movie. This ability can easily carry over to Disneyland where he could simply brush off his lack of colorful language by saying something along the lines of, “Disney said no more free tickets for me if I used no-no words around the kiddies.”

Some fans might be concerned about how the character will stay true to his movie counterpart without his typical brand of humor. While the Cast Member in the suit might have to get a little more creative, the character’s comedic ability is not limited to swear words and dirty jokes. Rest assured, Disney will be sure to let him keep his funny bone.

Why Bring Deadpool To Disneyland At All?

Avengers Campus is less than 4 years old in both California Adventure and Disneyland Paris, and with every new MCU project, Avengers Campus becomes an obvious way to market toys, apparel, and meet-and-greets based on the newest Marvel characters.

With Deadpool and Wolverine projected to shatter records at the box office this weekend, it would be a strange move on Disney’s part to miss out on the opportunity to market the main character in their parks, despite his obvious lack of couth. No word yet on whether Wolverine will be joining his red-suited companion in the parks, but eager fans are hopeful to see the duo in person after the film releases on the 26th.
