Fingernails: What The Crescent Shape Is, And 4 Other Cool Things You Didn’t Know

love, horoscope horrendous wedding

Fingernails and toenails are just two of the many things that are fascinating parts of the human body. Others include hair and skin. In addition to that, the feet are another cool part of the body. Without them having the design that they have, it would be very difficult for people to walk around and keep their balance.

Additionally, another little fun fact about them is that they do need to spend some time moving about without being inside a shoe. And as for skin, just adding a bit of lotion can make a big difference when it comes to how it looks. If people do not use lotion, their skin might dry out, and the same is true for lips and chapstick.

Furthermore, every part of the body can show signs of malnutrition. This includes fingernails. Plus, there are some really cool facts about them that people should know.

The Crescent Shape On Fingernails And Toenails Has A Name

One of the more interesting things a person might notice when they take a look at their nails is a slightly odd shape on the base of it. This shape typically looks like a crescent moon, but it may look different to some people since every person’s body is unique.

This shape, which can appear on both sets of nails, is called a lunula. While lots of people have them, there are some people who do not. Healthy ones are usually white and they tend to cover only a small part of the nail. The Thumb is the finger that usually has the largest lunula and the pinky finger tends to have the least visible one.

In addition to that, those who have them should see a doctor if their lunulae change color. That is because that can be an indication that something isn’t quite right with their health. This can happen when a person develops something like diabetes or Wilson’s disease.

The Nails On Our Fingers Grow Faster During A Certain Season

Summer is great for a lot of reasons. In addition to that, those who wish to grow longer nails might agree that one of the reasons why summer is so awesome is because their nails grow a lot then. Though that might sound a bit strange, it is true.

Furthermore, some individuals have created a couple of theories as to why this happens. There are a few people who think that this happens because some tend to drink more water during summer than they normally do. Others have slightly different thoughts on the matter. They believe it could be caused by sunlight exposure pushing the body to create some Vitamin D.

When It Comes To Men And Women, There Are Some Differences

Nails, whether they are on a person’s fingers or their toes, might not look like they would be fun things to learn about. However, that could not be further from the truth. There are plenty of fun facts about them and one of those facts is that men and women experience different things when it comes to their nails.

Even though women are typically seen with longer nails than men, it turns out that men’s nails actually grow faster, at least as far as their fingernails go. But that is not always the case. Hormones cause women’s nails to grow at a faster rate when they become pregnant.

Both Sets Grow By At Least A Few Millimeters Monthly

Everyone knows that nails grow, but not everyone knows exactly how much they grow, nor do they know how often. It turns out that when it comes to perfectly healthy people, their fingernails can grow approximately three and a half millimeters in one month. But of course, there are other factors to keep in mind here, such as the person’s health and gender.

Toenails also grow a bit each month, but they usually do not grow as quickly. If a person is healthy, their toenails will likely grow approximately one and a half millimeters every month.

Artificial Ones Have Been Around For A Very Long Time

Some people out there love their natural nails, but there are also some who enjoy using artificial ones as well. While this might seem like something that has developed over the last few decades, that is not the case. Artificial nails are not new at all.

Some evidence suggests that women in Ancient Egypt wore long, artificial nails, and they were not the only ones who did so. Women in China also wore them during the Ming Dynasty. From Their history to their growth rate, nails are fascinating things.
