Gypsy Rose Blanchard has been heavily critiqued in the public eye recently, and she was ready to dole out her own. Patricia Arquette depicted Blanchard’s mother in ‘The Act’, an obviously sensitive role for Gypsy Rose. Not only was Dee-Dee Blanchard allegedly abusing her daughter for the majority of her daughter’s life, but she was also murdered by Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her boyfriend at the time, Nick Godejohn. It’s understandable that her daughter would have mixed emotions over how her mother was depicted and be critical of Arquette’s performance.
Patricia Arquette Addresses Acting Critique
In an interview with Us Weekly, Gypsy Rose Blanchard shaded Patricia Arquette, saying, “I think Joey King did an amazing job playing me. I was a little bit harder on Patricia Arquette playing my mom just because it’s my life. I am very hypercritical of it.” It’s unclear why Blanchard was harder on Arquette or what her specific qualms with Arquette’s performance were. It’s not as though Dee-Dee Blanchard was an easy individual to portray.
Patricia Arquette was very graceful in her response. The actor was open with TooFab about her thoughts on Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s criticism, saying, “Oh I didn’t know that. Well, that’s okay, I can live with that. I’m okay with that. We are all entitled to our opinions. You know, I mean, that was her mom and I think even though they killed her mom, she also really loved her mom, so they had a very complicated relationship and a lot of strange stuff there going on, you know.”
Oh, we know, Arquette! Playing a woman like Dee-Dee Blanchard would probably be harder than any negative press she’s received about her role. Even from Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Patricia Arquette also won an Emmy for her performance, so most of America loved her acting, even if it wasn’t Gypsy Rose’s favorite.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Thoughts On ‘The Act’
Besides Patricia Arquette and Joey King’s performance on ‘The Act’, she also had other thoughts on the series. In an interview with TooFab, Gypsy Rose stated how odd it was to have a series made about her without her permission or ability to weigh in on the story at all.
She also didn’t love the publicity from the series or the negative attention that came from it. Allegedly, some ‘strange’ women who lacked ‘boundaries’ were reaching out to Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s father, which is concerning and unnecessary. She also temporarily lost her boyfriend, Ken Urker, due to bad press. Granted, that attention is also paying her bills as she releases series and books post-prison with the fame she garnered from Hulu‘s ‘The Act.’
