After dropping support for Ed Martin Jr., Trump announced on Thursday that Jeanine Pirro will become the Washington, D.C., prosecutor. This happened following news that Republican Sen. Thom Tillis decided not to support the decision Trump made for the prosecutor role. Jeanine Pirror has been with the Fox News Network since 2006, following a more than a decade-long career as an elected district attorney for the county. She also served as a New York Westchester County Court Judge in the 1990s.
Trump Changes Pick for Washington D.C. Prosecutor
Executive orders and changes in the federal government, brought about by Trump, have been questioned ever since he stepped into office for a second time. On the 8th of May, we got news that Trump nominated Dr. Casey Means, a person with no medical license, to become the Surgeon General. Trump also upset the Catholic church recently with an AI generated image of himself as the new pope.
Now, we see another change in nominations from Trump. This time, it is for the Washington, D.C., Prosecutor. Ed Martin was set to become the top pick for this position. However, when Sen. Thom Tillis decided not to support the pick from Trump, the President had to act upon this notice. The main reason for the lack of support from Tillis is due to the involvement of Martin in the defense of individuals who participated in a riot back in 2021.
During the riot and attack on the 6th of January, 2021, over 1,500 rioters were prosecuted. Martin made his stance clear following the prosecution, putting himself in a defensive position. According to Tillis, this is the main reason why he withdrew his support for Martin as his pick for the Washington, D.C., prosecutor.
Jeanine Pirro as Washington D.C. Prosecutor
Following the withdrawal of Martin as the pick for prosecutor for the county, Trump announced that his pick would be replaced by Jeanine Pirro. She is well known for co-hosting an evening show that runs during the week on Fox News, called The Five. While Pirro now serves as the cohost of this show, she was previously strongly involved in the federal government.
In 1990, she was elected to become a judge in the Westchester County Court. She also served for three terms as an elected district attorney for the county. These achievements are what placed Pirro in the spotlight when Trump had to look elsewhere for a prosecutor in Washington, D.C.
Pirro was previously involved in a lawsuit where she, Fox News, and other entities were accused of making false claims. This lawsuit was filed by Smartmatic USA, which is a company specializing in the creation of voting technology. They sued Fox News, along with Jeanine Pirro, for claiming that Smartmatic USA stole the election from Donald Trump in the year 2020.
