John Wayne Gacy’s Murders consisted of seduction, trickery and rape; he was known as the “Killer Clown”. He was born on March 17, 1942, and died on May 10, 1994. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. John was married twice. His first wife, Marlynn Myers from 1964-1969. His second wife, Carole Hoff from 1972-1976.
John Wayne Gacy’s father was an auto repair mechanic and a World War I veteran. He struggled with alcoholism and beat John and his two sisters with a strap if it was perceived that they were not behaving. I believe that John Wayne Gacy’s Murders began based on his childhood, the verbal abuse, and physical abuse he suffered.

John Wayne Gacy was a serial killer, and he murdered at least 33 young boys and teenagers in Cook County, Illinois. He would bury the victims under his house and in a crawl space. He committed all of the murders in his Norwood Park home. He would lure his victims into his home with the promise of work. Once in his home, Gacy would then sexually assault his victims before killing them. He usually killed them by strangulation.
The John Wayne Gacy Murders were a reflection of how he grew up and how he was abused. His psychosexual history began between the ages of 6 and 10. A daughter (teenager) of one of his mother’s friends reportedly undressed him and played with him.
John Wayne Gacy was overweight and uncoordinated; he was unable to participate in sports or make any type of connections with children his own age. He was alienated at school and was also unable to play with other children because he had a congenital heart condition. His father considered that another failure for John. John’s father started alienating him even more.
John Wayne Gacy, as a child, also experienced seizures and blackouts and was constantly in and out of the hospital. His father accused him of faking these episodes to get attention. Soon after, he realized he was attracted to men.
John Wayne Gacy was molested at a young age by a family friend and contractor. Between the ages of 10 and 12, Gacy and a friend were accused of sexually fondling a young girl, beginning the reign of his terror.
His Family Life and Career
John Wayne Gacy was first convicted and served time in prison in 1968. He was accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy and then attempted to assault another. Here is a list of the top 5 serial killers.
He denied the accusations, and some members of his community believed he was innocent. He was convicted and served 10 years in prison. Shortly thereafter, his wife divorced him, and she received full custody of their children.
John Wayne Gracy did not graduate from High School. He attended and graduated from the Northwestern Business College in Chicago. After that, John worked as a salesman and manager at a shoe company.
In 1971, he was engaged to Carole Hoff (whom he briefly dated in High School), and they were married in 1972.  Her father owned three KFC restaurants in Waterloo, Iowa. They relocated there so he could manage the restaurants. John Wayne Gacy also became a contractor in the 1970s. He later delves into political involvement. John said his father always mocked his interest in politics, thinking he was not good enough. He organized cultural and political events and said later that it was the happiest time in his life.
The Victims
John Wayne Gacy committed his first murder in January 1972.  He lured a 16-year-old boy to his house for sex. The next morning, he stabbed the boy to death, claiming the boy was coming after him with a knife. He also started dressing up as a clown, becoming known as the “Killer Clown”.

Another victim was an 18-year-old boy, whom Gacy lured to his house. He was an employee of Gacy’s, he said he wanted to discuss the overdue pay that he owed the boy. He gave the boy alcohol and tricked him into putting on handcuffs. He would sometimes coax them into putting the handcuffs on, telling them, “It was a magic trick”. He then strangled the boy to death.
By the mid 1970’s, two more young men accused John Wayne Gacy of rape. He referred to this period of his life as “cruising years”. Most of his victims were buried on the property under his crawl space. It was later discovered that he had employees come to his home to dig trenches; he wanted space for more graves.
The murders continued until 1978. He killed several more victims, and one victim he left alive, a college student he abducted from a bus stop in Chicago. John Wayne Gacy brought the boy to his home, dunking his head in a tub of water until he passed out. He also pretended to shoot the boy with no bullets in his gun. The boy pleaded with John to kill him, but he said no and let him go, warning him not to tell anybody. When the boy reported him to the police, Gacy said it was consensual (slavery sex).
Conclusion
The John Wayne Gacy Murders ended in 1979 after his arrest. His home at 8213 West Summerdale Avenue in Northwood Park, Illinois, was dismantled in the hopes of finding more evidence. The following year, the house was completely demolished.
His trial began on February 6, 1980. He pleaded not guilty and claimed that he had multiple personality disorder, and that his mind was split between a contractor, a clown, a politician, and a police officer named “Bad Jack”. What are personality Disorders?
John Wayne Gacy pleaded not guilty because of insanity. He went on trial for 33 murder charges. It was argued that he was sane and in control of his actions. On March 12, 1980, after the jury deliberated for only a short time, and was found guilty of all 33 murders.
He was sentenced to prison at the Menard Correctional Center in Chester for 14 years. An execution date was set in October 1993, and the date was set for May 10, 1994. His supposed last words were “Kiss My A**”.
After his arrest, there have also been concerns that John Wayne Gacy might have been the murderer of other victims whose bodies have not yet been found. When police discovered other human remains in his home, the victims could not be identified.
The John Wayne Gacy Murders will never be forgotten. He did say, “I should never have been convicted of anything more serious than running a cemetery without a license”. A true killer and murderer. “The Killer Clown” is no longer.
