Do they, or do they not, get released from prison? The Menendez Brothers, Erik and Lyle Menendez, had a hearing today in an L.A. court. The court heard arguments that the brothers should be resentenced, which would mean they would be eligible for parole immediately.
The Deputy District Attorney Habib Balian argued that the Menendez Brothers should stay in prison and that they have not changed.  The Menendez Brothers are currently seeking Clemency from California Gov. Gavin Newsom. The results and hearing for Clemency are expected on June 13.
The Menendez Brothers
Erik and Lyle Menendez brutally murdered their parents in their Beverly Hills home in August of 1989. Their parents, Jose and Kitty, were watching TV and enjoying dessert when all of a sudden, Erik and Lyle burst into the room and started shooting them with shotguns.
The Menendez Brothers then immediately called police, claiming their parents had been killed by intruders. Soon after, they went on a spending spree. They bought expensive cars and watches. After further investigation, Erik and Lyle were arrested in March of 1990. They claimed they were molested and abused. The Menendez Brothers even went so far as to say they thought their parents were trying to kill them.
When they went to trial, each brother had a separate jury. The juries for the Menendez Brothers were both declared mistrials. At the end of a second trial in 1996, Lyle and Erik were convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to two consecutive life prison terms without the possibility of parole. Lyle and Erik were sent to separate prisons to serve their time.
Both of the Menendez Brothers married while in prison. Erik married his wife in 1999, while Lyle married his wife in 2003. It was announced that Lyle had separated from his wife back in November of 2024. They remain best friends and family.
The Future of the Menendez Brothers
What happens next? Do they get resentenced? If they do, they could get released immediately. Do they remain in prison? Will Governor Gavin Newsom give them Clemency? Are politics a factor? It was mentioned today that the former DA requested a reduced sentence, telling the court it came two weeks before the election, that he was down in the polls.
Final Thoughts
Lyle and Erik Menendez killed their parents in cold blood. Right from the beginning, they claimed their parents were killed by intruders. To kill your parents, then make a phone call crying that your parents were murdered? What kind of person does that? There was no grief shown when their parents were killed. Just the initial phone call to the police and during their trials. Numerous times, you can see Lyle and Erik smirking during their trial.
Lyle and Erik Menendez are great actors. What kind of message are we sending if they are released? Is it okay to kill your parents? They claim they were molested. I am sorry to say that happens to people in this world every day. How you choose to deal with it is up to you.
They simply could have left, but claimed they were afraid to. So why, when their parents were killed, do they go on a spending spree? Why did Lyle get upset when Erik talked to a therapist about what they did? They are selfish and only think about what is best for themselves. If they are released, shame on the judicial system. Let us send the right message out to the upcoming generations out there. Killing is not okay. If you need help, ask for it or get out!
