As far as cases go, Mica Miller’s case is an intriguing mystery. Her wounds and her husband, John Paul Miller, the pastor at Solid Rock Church, claim that it’s a self-inflicted death but her family and friends think otherwise… Why is that? And who’s in the right? It got to a point that the US Attorney’s Office for South Carolina and the FBI got involved to crack the mystery. So, let’s break down what we know about the pastor’s wife’s critical case.
The Calm Before Mica Miller’s Storm

Mica Miller, 30, and John Paul Miller, 44, had a rocky relationship. Court records reveal that Mica first filed for divorce in October 2023 before withdrawing the filing on February 12. Later that month, Miller filed against his wife for Separate Support and Maintenance in a motion withdrawn on March 11. However, on April 15, 12 days before she was found dead, Mica filed for divorce again and sought a no-contact order against her husband.
In addition to all this, a police report shows that Mica Miller contacted officers accusing John Miller of sharing an indecent photo of herself on a Facebook group called ‘big boobs and nice curves.’ Court documents also show that the pastor has been accused of grooming her before their wedding and of committing her to a hospital to steal her car. All that was too much for Mica to the point that she feared for her own life, especially after finding a GPS tracker on her car and a razor blade in her tire.
The Timeline of Mica Miller’s Death
Firstly, on the morning of April 27, Mica Miller is seen on her Ring camera leaving her residence on Margarita Drive in Myrtle Beach, then arriving at her residence and leaving it again. Later, Mica was seen on store surveillance walking into Dick’s Pawn Shop and buying a weapon. Then she was seen leaving the pawn shop and driving her black Honda Accord on Highway 501 near Four Mile Road in Conway.
Detectives were later approached by someone who said he found a bag while fishing with Mica Miller’s ID inside. Detectives took possession of the bag. This person also heard crying and then a gunshot. The person stated that he went further into the slough where he found the bag about two feet from the water’s edge. Another individual contacted 911 and said he located a body in the water. Searching deputies secured the area for an investigation.
The medical examiner was contacted and requested, and a CSI technician photographed the area of investigation including Mica Miller’s vehicle. Evidence was collected from her car and the incident location. Investigators found a Sig Sauer gun case in the vehicle’s passenger seat and ammunition in the vehicle’s center console.
Investigators also found a receipt for the handgun and another one from a convenience store in the vehicle. Both receipts were dated for the same day of Mica Miller’s death. The serial number on the gun found in the water matched the gun box that was found in Miller’s car. The medical examiner concluded that the gunshot wound that caused her death was self-inflicted, ruling her death as a suicide.
John Miller’s Take vs. Her Friends and Family
Investigators confirmed John’s whereabouts. He was with a woman, a waitress Pastor Miller was allegedly romantically involved with. Investigators also confirmed both were not in North Carolina on the night before or the day of Mica’s death, and they determined that John traveled to Charleston for a sporting event on April 26, the day before Mica Miller died. This was proven through eyewitnesses and license plate readers. Detectives confirmed that he stayed overnight in the Charleston area.
After the incident, Pastor Miller hosted a memorial for his wife, Mica Miller, after which, he was released from his ministerial functions for “a time of healing, counsel, and guidance, pursuant to our governing instrument.” The church’s website was also suspended over the weekend.
Pastor Miller believes that his wife’s death was a suicide and that she was mentally unstable, especially without her medications. Mica Miller’s family and friends, however, believe that her death wasn’t a suicide and they kept urging the police to investigate her death thoroughly. They even held a rally Sunday in front of Solid Rock Church, calling for justice for Mica, as well as a memorial service.
