Don’t get it twisted; not every luxury fashion name brand always comes out with a hit. This time around, the brand in question is Balenciaga, and from what we’ve seen so far, they’re dropping a huge miss. Balenciaga has some prime pieces to pick from, but this particular preview of their new platform sneaker for Spring 2025 has us filled far past the brim with feelings of confusion.
When you get a glimpse of these, you’ll either get it or get lost (literally). Let’s have a quick run-through of what these monstrosity sneakers look like.
Aesthetically Overloaded Sneakers
At first glance, the new Balenciaga sneakers are a visual assault on your precious little eyes. The chaotic clashing of the colors and oversized features creates an aesthetic overload. The result is a shoe that looks more like a failed art project than a luxury fashion item. We’re all for having a strong sense of self-expression in how you like to dress yourself. However, these shoes are so insane because they look tossed and thrown together.
Do you remember seeing people make those rubber band balls? For those of you who have no idea what we’re talking about, rubberband balls are made by wrapping a bunch of rubber bands together to make a ball. Anyway, the sneaker ultimately looks like it was a rubber band ball that was sliced open. The color layers in the Balenciaga platform sneakers are highly distracting and quite frankly tacky.
As if it couldn’t get any worse, the platform part of the shoe has the absolute ugliest shape, which causes it to look irregular. We can only imagine what it’ll look like modeled on feet.
Looking Like A Fashion Victim

Fashion is subjective. We completely understand that what appeals to one person may not resonate with another. However, you would more than likely catch us wearing a pair of New Balance before seeing us in a pair of those Balenciaga sneakers. Even New Balance has come out with a more chic design for their more recent sneaker collection.
Balenciaga’s bulky design, with its exaggerated proportions, looks as if it’ll be cumbersome and impractical. What type of outing would you even wear these to? Wearing these seems less about comfort and more about making an over-the-top statement just for the sake of owning a pair of name-brand shoes. Sorry not sorry, the new Balenciaga sneakers push the envelope to the point where they could easily be considered a fashion faux pas.
The strange design seems to be driven more by the desire to shock and stand out rather than to create something genuinely appealing or stylish. This approach risks turning wearers into fashion victims.
Hard Pass For The Balenciaga Sneakers
Yes, fashion is always evolving, but these, much like the big red clown boots from MSCHF, are a hard pass. These could have been left behind, and almost no one would’ve missed them. You can say these types of weird designs are moments that redefine trends, but these in particular leave us sitting here scratching our heads. The Balenciaga sneakers that will be dropping next year fall firmly into the latter category if you ask us.
Balenciaga has a history of pushing boundaries and challenging what people view to be conventional fashion norms. Unfortunately, their new sneaker design has crossed a line from avant-garde to outright hideous.
