Oura Ring Review: A Positive Experience

Oura Rings is a health and wellness smart ring similar to an Apple Watch but in a sleeker design. It is small and fits snugly on your finger so that the sensors can accurately track over 20 of your biometrics. It monitors several bodily functions, including sleep quality, heart rate, body temperature, respiratory rate, activity levels, and readiness. The data it gathers is stored on the Oura Ring app and can be checked daily, comparing it to days and weeks before. 

When finding the perfect Oura Ring for you, you need to decide what metal you like, such as silver, rose gold, or gold. However, they are all priced differently, with gold being more expensive than the others. It is also important to note that the Oura Ring app requires a subscription to access your daily data, but you get a 30-day trial. After your free trial is up, it is $5.99 per month. If you have an HSA account, it will cover everything you need: the ring, the charger, and the monthly membership. 

How an Oura Ring Works

The Oura Ring tracks your sleep, heart rate, activity, and readiness. It will take up to two weeks of consistent wear to accurately predict how your body will react and what it needs. For sleep tracking, it will determine what time you need to go to bed based on your usual activity. It tracks the total amount of time you are in bed and how long you are in REM, light, or deep sleep. It will also track your heart rate throughout the night. 

As for your activity level, the Oura Ring tracks your movement religiously. It will send you a notification if it is time to stretch your legs, and it will count your steps for you. But beware, if your hands are still, it will not be able to count accurately. For example, if you are walking at a steep incline on the treadmill and are holding onto the handles, it is more than likely that your step count will be lower. Based on your movement and activity throughout the day, it will count your calories and show how much you burned normally, and the amount burned actively. 

Besides the step count and calorie tracker, my favorite part of the Oura Ring is the stress tracker. Oura can detect and guide you through moments of stress to help balance your day-to-day. I have noticed that I am most stressed when driving or in certain situations at work. Knowing when I am internally stressed is helpful to know when to manage it, and Oura gives you tips on how to do so.  

Why Choose an Oura Ring?

When deciding if an Oura Ring is right for you, consider what the purpose of using it would be. Would it serve your needs? I have never owned an Apple Watch or any other digital tracker. Part of that is due to the bulkiness of it on my wrist. How do people sleep in that, or do they? The Oura Ring is no longer noticeable on my finger, and it does its job.
