Review of ‘Morbid: A True Crime Podcast’

Morbid

‘Morbid: A True Crime podcast!’  If you want to listen to a true crime podcast about the history of crimes you have never heard of, or have heard of, and all other spooky topics, this podcast is worth a listen. It is engaging, it is the telling of true stories, and it is spooky.  If you are into true crimes and serial killers, there are a ton of episodes you can listen to.

The Morbid podcast also tells stories about serial killers that maybe you never knew about, as well as the paranormal.  The podcast is hosted by Alaina Urquhart and Ash Kelley.  Alaina is an autopsy technician and an author, while Ash is a hairdresser.  They not only tell the story of different true crime murders, but they also add their insight and some humor into the podcast as well.

Morbid: A True Crime Podcast

Alaina and Ash always start their podcast by saying, “Hello weirdos”.  They also tend to discuss topics in their podcasts based on the time of year.  During Halloween, they discuss topics that talk about the paranormal and, of course, serial killers and horror movies.

The first episode of the Morbid podcast was aired on May 1, 2018, and in this first episode, they dove into the story of The Golden State Killer.  Episode two was about Edmund Kemper, episode three was about the Dyatlov Pass Incident, and episode four was about Joel Rifkin.  They talk about true crime stories that are not always known to everyone, or the most infamous.

Soon after that, the following episodes that were discussed on The Morbid podcast included Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, and The Axman of New Orleans, AKA a Real Crumb.  Not only do they discuss serial killers that most people are familiar with, but they also talk about the untold stories of serial killers or paranormal stories, which may be unheard-of true stories that even we might not know about.

An example of a possible unheard story is about “The Tragic Case of Susan Powell”, which was a mini-Morbid podcast.  In Ash’s Alaina-length Mini Morbid, she bravely took on the heartbreaking mystery of Susan Powell’s disappearance and the murder of her two beautiful boys. It is one part mystery, one part horrific Texas Chainsaw Massacre family dynamic, and one part devastating murder suicide. This is a tough one, but it will have you engrossed from beginning to end.

Episodes are usually available to listen to every week or so.  Most recent episodes that are available to listen to are about David Carpenter: The Trailside Killer, The Exorcism of Roland Doe, and Herbert Mullin: The Killer Hippie.

If you want to discover unknown true crimes, serial killers, paranormal activity, and other topics within the spooky realm, give the Morbid Podcast a listen or two.  If you are exercising, driving, or just doing work around the house, if this interests you, take a listen. Not every episode is for everyone, so just pick and choose what you want to listen to. Just be aware, some episodes are pretty detailed, even I at some point was like “oh my god”, and I said it out loud.

Review of Morbid Podcast

Morbid received a 4-star review.  The critics vary in their opinions.  Some critics have pointed out that while some topics are very sensitive, of course, some of the commentary can be dubbed as inappropriate.  In more recent episodes, they have become more aware and shown growth in this area. Morbid is an intense podcast and is not necessarily for everyone. Some episodes are based on fictional movies, and some are based on actual life events.

If you are into true crime, horror, serial killers, and stories of the unknown, I would recommend taking a listen or two.  Start by browsing through their library and find something to listen to that stands out to you.  It could be a favorite horror movie, or a real, true crime story you have never even heard of.  Explore what you are interested in if this is your genre. It is available on Spotify, Amazon Prime, and Wondery.
