A 30-year-old woman, Sabrina Kauldhar, was charged on October 4, 2024, for the murder of three individuals earlier that week. The gruesome murders spanned three days in Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Ontario. She was arrested at a hotel in Toronto on Thursday, October 3, after the police linked the cases. Kauldhar is facing two second-degree murder charges and one first-degree. An investigation is still underway; however, police believe the last two attacks to be random. If she is convicted of all three murders, police will consider her to be a serial killer. However, there was no time in between the killings, so the title spree killer would be more suitable for the nature of her crimes.
Three Separate Attacks
On Tuesday, October 1, police responded to a call at Trinh Thi Vu’s, age 66, home in Toronto. She was reported dead with “visible trauma to her body.” It is alleged that Kauldhar personally knew Vu. The following day, police responded to a disturbance at John Allan Park in Niagara Falls. Officers arrived to find Lance Cunningham, 47, in critical condition. Despite their efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. On Thursday, October 3, police responded to a call in Hamilton, Ontario. There was a request for an ambulance, and when police arrived, they found Mario Billich, 77, suffering from critical injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
Niagara Police Chief Bill Fordy said, “We offer our sincere condolences to the families.” He said they do not believe there to be any connection between the murders of Cunningham and Billich. They also have not found any similar motive between the two. Fordy said in a news conference that the men “were both going about their business, and we believe that they were random attacks.”
Sabrina Kauldhar was caught on several CCTV footage during the attacks. Authorities have over 100 investigators working on this case, viewing the footage to determine the timeline of the attacks. Niagara Police are keeping in touch with other law enforcement offices to see if there are any other alleged attacks.
Two Loving Fathers
The Niagara Falls and Hamilton victims of Kauldhar are being remembered as loving fathers. Mario Billich was well-known in the Hamilton community as a retired Catholic school teacher. Bilich’s daughter, Antonella Bilich Greco, wrote a Facebook post, “Our dad, Babbo, papà was a poet, an extremely devoted husband and father, and Nonno, a very funny and quirky guy.” She continued to say he was “A frequenter of Italian and Portuguese coffee hang-out spots, a buyer of eggs and cheese, a constant shopper at the Jackson Square market, a lover of walking, and the best purchaser of perfectly ripe fruit that ever existed.”
Lance Cunningham was known as the ‘fun dad.’ Lance and his wife, Kim Cunningham, have a 13-year-old daughter together. His wife told CBC Toronto her husband was a wonderful father. She said he was a lover of all kinds of music, a long-time Steeler fan, and always had advice for people. In an email to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., she wrote, “He did not deserve this.” She continued, “I want my husband back.”
Final Thoughts
Sabrina Kauldhar appeared in provincial court in St. Catharines to be indicted on all three murder charges. She is currently in custody with the Niagara Police. Authorities say that she stabbed all three victims, but a motive has yet to be uncovered. This is not her first run-in with the law. She has faced time in jail for prior assault convictions. Her case has been put on hold until October 17 for her to undergo a mental health assessment.
Locals of the Hamilton, Ontario community have been leaving flowers in the parking lot where Mario Billich was found. The sudden deaths of these beloved people have had a severe impact on their families and communities. Not much is known about Kauldhar’s first victim besides they might have been familiar with one another. Either way, what has happened to these three individuals is nothing short of a tragedy. Their families can only hope for some sense of clarity and justice.
