On Monday, House Democrat Rep. Shri Thanedar of Michigan introduced seven articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. In the articles, he asserts that Trump is “unfit” to serve as president. Thanedar said in a release that Trump has repeatedly proven that he is unfit to serve. He also asserted that Trump is a “clear and present danger to our nation’s constitution and our democracy.” The articles accuse Trump of “obstruction of justice and abuse of executive power.”
Shri Thanedar Says Congress Must Act
The articles also accuse Trump of “Usurpation of Appropriations Power,” “Abuse of Trade Powers and International Aggression,” “Violation of First Amendment Rights,” “Creation of an Unlawful Office,” “Bribery and Corruption,” and “Tyrannical Overreach.”
“His unlawful actions have subverted the justice system, violated the separation of powers, and placed personal power and self-interest above public service. We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act,” Shri Thanedar adds.
Trump Was Impeached During 1st Term
During his first term as president, Trump was impeached by the House twice; however, both times the Senate failed to get the votes to secure a conviction. The second impeachment happened just before Trump’s term ended, and the Senate again acquitted.
Liz Huston Supports Trump
“Every action taken by President Trump and his administration is fully lawful and firmly rooted in the will of the American people. President Trump is doing exactly what he promised: securing our border, bringing in trillions of dollars in investment to America, and restoring common sense leadership,” White House spokesperson Liz Huston said in a statement.
“Meanwhile, Democrats are once again showing where their true priorities lie — siding with illegal immigrants over the safety, security, and well-being of hardworking American citizens. Their desperate impeachment stunt is nothing more than a reckless political act that the American people see right through.”
Thanedar Targeted By Progressives
Since October of 2023, Shri Thandar has found himself a target of progressives because he distanced himself from the wing of the party. He is a former member of the Democratic Socialists of America, but he renounced his membership after the group vowed solidarity with the Palestinian people but did not condemn Hamas for the attack. In the 2026 elections, Thanedar faces two primary challenges.
Rep. Donavan McKinney announced on Monday that he was launching a left-wing challenge for Thanedar’s seat. McKinney has called Shri Thanedar an out-of-touch multimillionaire representing one of the country’s poorest districts.
Thanedar Wants Free Healthcare
“People like our congressman, Shri Thanedar, are the problem,” McKinney said. “A multimillionaire who spent millions to buy a seat in Congress, who has more in common with Donald Trump and Elon Musk than people like us.”
“I know firsthand what it’s like to struggle and make ends meet. That’s why I’m passionate about ensuring everyone gets a free education, universal healthcare, and access to skills training to get good-paying jobs,” Thanedar said in response.
