A Villains Land has long been rumored for Walt Disney World. Concept art had circled the internet for years of what a land completely dedicated to the evil characters in the Disney universe would look like. After years of dreaming, fans will finally get to see this land become a reality. At the D23 parks and experiences panel, head of parks and experiences Josh D’Amaro announced that the land is happening and coming to Magic Kingdom.
Villains Land Coming To Walt Disney World
To be clear, Villains Land is not a fifth gate like many assumed it would be. It will be housed in Magic Kingdom and will be a part of the current park. D’Amaro announced, “The space will be home to two major attractions, dining, and shopping on an incredibly twisted grand scale.” The magic mirror from Snow White teed off the announcement, and fans at the event went wild. Only one piece of concept art was shown which depicted a twisted castle and lots of the Disney villain green that appears in so many films. However, a closer look may give some clues.
If you look closely, Maleficent, in her dragon form, can be seen near something that looks to be a roller coaster. Since this land will likely be geared more toward adults, it makes sense there will be at least one thrill ride. The Disney parks are so much more than the rides. Guests will likely be very excited about character meet and greets, dining, and shopping themed around a set of forgotten characters, except around Halloween. While no timetable was given, D’Amoro did have some promising news.
Ground Has Been Broken
While some of the announcements at D23 have not broken ground, D’Amoro revealed work has already begun on the Villains Land. They have already started construction on some of the buildings, which is a huge development. Normally, when something of this magnitude gets announced, the company takes at least a year to get everything in order. It shows how big of a deal they believe this land will be. They want guests to flock to Walt Disney World to see the new land. It also may be a small response to Universal’s Dark Universe, which is opening with Epic Universe soon.
Permits will be filed soon, which means we will get a better idea of what exactly is coming to Walt Disney World. At this point, most Disney fans do not care about any details. Hearing that a Villains Land is coming and already being constructed is huge and was a great way to end the panel at D23.
