Vitamix: Which Products Have Been Recalled and Why

How many homes have one of the popular blenders marketed by Vitamix in their homes? This morning, after receiving reports of numerous injuries from unprotected blades, Vitamix has recalled over 550,000 blending containers and blade bases for several of its currently marketed blenders. The original recall was issued in 2018 and has now been expanded to include some of its costliest and most popular blenders currently on the market. In addition, they are also offering a new repair kit. For more details, please keep reading.

The Product Recall

The models included in the expanded recall include both the Ascent Series and the Venturist Series with both the 8-ounce and 20-ounce containers included in the recall as well as the blade bases for both models. In some cases, the containers have separated from the bases leaving the blades spinning without cover causing damage and injury to anything that could accidentally come into contact with the blades.

As you can imagine, this could cause significant injury. Vitamix has reported 27 injuries including lacerations from both the current and the original product recall, with 16 new reports that prompted the additional recall.

The original recall in August 2018, included 105,000 blending containers and blade bases along with about 121,950 were sold in Canada. Today an additional 464,000 were added to the recall. This recall also includes re-recalling the containers and bases that were repaired in the 2018 recall

Those units included in the recall were sold at Costco, Best Buy, Crate & Barrel, Macy’s, Target, Williams Sonoma, and Walmart. These units were also sold in specialty and independent stores nationwide. They could have also been purchased online at Vitamix.com, Amazon, and QVC.com from April 2017 through May 2024 for between $30 and $990 for the blender and blending containers, some sold in packaging with other products.

The Fix

It has been recommended that anyone with a repaired unit from the 2018 recall be put out of use and the owners need to immediately contact Vitamix to obtain the repair kit for the previously repaired blenders. The repair kits that are part of the expanded recall include a new protective plastic shroud that attaches over the blade base along with instruction labels on how to use/install it.
