The White House is claiming that former First Lady Jill Biden is “complicit” in covering up her husband’s decline while he was still in the White House. Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s press secretary, said on Thursday that Biden “needs to answer for her role in shielding her husband away from the cameras.” Leavitt also accused Biden of “lying to the American people.” A newly released book has renewed questions about Joe Biden’s mental acuity as president.
New Book Makes Allegations
The book, “Original Sin,” written by Jake Tapper, claims that the former president often forgot the names of his closest aides and needed briefing cards for his cabinet meetings. The book also alleges that Jill Biden seized on her husband’s incompetence to bolster her influence in the White House.
The White House is now accusing Jill Biden of shielding her husband from the media and convincing him to move forward with his re-election campaign. “I think, frankly, the former first lady should certainly speak up about what she saw in regards to her husband and when she saw and what she knew,” Leavitt told reporters.
Jill Biden Accused Of Lying
“Anybody looking again at the videos and photo evidence of Joe Biden with your own eyes and a little bit of common sense can see this was a clear cover-up, and Jill Biden was certainly complicit in that cover-up.” Leavitt went on to note the Bidens had appeared on ABC’s ‘The View’ in early May.
“She was saying everything is fine. She’s still lying to the American people. She still thinks the American public is so stupid that they’re going to believe her lies. And frankly, it’s insulting, and she needs to answer for it.”
Elder Abuse
Last week, an official within Trump’s Justice Department, Leo Terrell, suggested that Jill Biden, who is nine years younger than the former president, could face criminal charges of “elder abuse.” The new book also claims that Jill Biden was complicit in shielding her husband from any negative press while becoming “one of the most powerful first ladies in history.”
The book discusses one incident when Jill Biden reportedly pulled her husband away from Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, when he raised concerns about Joe Biden running for reelection after a poor showing by Biden at the presidential debate.
Biden’s Team Pushes Back
Biden’s team is pushing back on the material from “Original Sin,” which focuses on Biden’s alleged mental decline.“There is nothing in this book that shows Joe Biden failed to do his job, as the authors have alleged, nor did they prove their allegation that there was a cover-up or conspiracy,” a Biden spokesperson said in a statement.
“Nowhere do they show that our national security was threatened or where the President wasn’t otherwise engaged in the important matters of the Presidency. In fact, Joe Biden was an effective President who led our country with empathy and skill.”
